What is a Secret Code puzzle?
A Secret Code puzzle (also known as Cryptogram or Crostic) is a fun word game. It hides a message, like a quote or a short sentence, by changing each letter into another letter, number, or symbol.
Your job is to crack the code and find the secret message. You do this by looking for clues, like letters that show up a lot, word shapes, or words you already know. For example, a very common letter might stand for E or T.
Secret Code puzzles are tricky, but not too hard. With some thinking and guessing, you can solve them! Sometimes the puzzle even gives you hints to help you along. These puzzles are popular in games, puzzle books, newspapers, and apps.
How to create a Secret Code puzzle?
At Oh, my Dots!, you can create a Secret Code either by yourself or with the help of AI. To generate one with AI, simply click Generate with A.I., optionally enter a theme, and press OK.
To create a puzzle manually, type a sentence into the text box. The puzzle will be created automatically. You can also add Hint words to help players figure out the letters.
Use the Reveal option to select how many letters will be revealed when the game starts. In the dropdown next to it, choose what appears below each square: Letters, Numbers, Symbols, Emojis, or Greek Letters. Toggle the Solution switch to check how challenging your game is.
To share the game with friends online, click Create, or select Print to print it right away.
What is a Secret Code puzzle maker?
A Secret Code puzzle maker is either a person or a tool (usually an app or software) that creates these encoded puzzles. When using a Secret Code maker, the creator starts with a piece of text and applies a substitution cipher to scramble the letters. Good puzzle makers ensure that no letter substitutes for itself (to maintain challenge), and they often choose quotes that are clever, funny, or thought-provoking. There are many online Secret Code generators that allow users to input their own text and automatically produce a printable or digital puzzle, making it easy for educators, puzzle fans, or game developers to share custom Secret Code puzzles.
